Did investigators consider the possibility that an explosion caused or contributed to the collapse of WTC 7? Yes, this possibility was investigated carefully. NIST concluded that blast events inside the building did not occur and found no evidence supporting the existence of a blast event.

Battalion Chief Brian Dixon confirmed later Wednesday that the main bodies of fire have been extinguished, although he said small pockets or "hot spots" are still being discovered.
But Dixon noted a firetruck remains on standby at the site, and the department considers it an active fire scene.
The fires that began with the Sept. 11 attacks had been strong enough that firetrucks had to spray a nearly constant jet of water on them. At times, the flames slowed the work of clearing the site.
"You couldn't even begin to imagine how much water was pumped in there," said Tom Manley of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, the largest fire department union. "It was like you were creating a giant lake."

FOUR MILLION GALLONS onto the WTC wreckage, in the first 10 days after 9/11. All of that water would've diluted any remaining jet and diesel fuel, and the gasoline that was in the vehicles in the WTC parking areas. Due to the vehicles getting crushed ,the fuel would've spilled out, then diluted by all that water to the point it would no longer be flammable.
So for a fire to be burning THREE MONTHS later, after millions and millions of gallons of water being used, shows without a doubt that there was some kind of chemical agent used in the WTC attack that was resistant to water.

This fine paper underwent several months of rather arduous peer-review preceding its publication in the Journal of 9/11 Studies. The paper supports work by James Gourley published in the Journal of Engineering Mechanics and recent analysis by David Chandler. A few quotes from the paper should wet your interest:

This is some of the most damning evidence not addressed by NIST.
I used to work with people from NIST by phone, email and in person for years. For a long time I had the utmost respect for their technical knowledge base. Then in the late 90's congress mandated NIST to administer a very flawed law the 'fastener quality act' to the industry. It was a political football tossed around with special interests, including some sister companies, trying to control the outcome. NIST drug it out for years to maintain their newly created jobs until the insanity was so obvious the law was gutted as it should have been. Millions of dollars were spent in
the fiasco. NIST claimed victory.
So it came as no surprise they would sell out in the 9/11 'investigation.' It was go along with the cover up or lose their jobs ... or worse.

When I was in basic in the Army, we got shown the M14 incendiary device, which was designed to disable a vehicle by melting thru an engine block. It uses thermite.
These have been around for a long time. I have seen the aftermath of a car engine on which an M14 has been used - it is not pretty.
The M14
A cylindrical grenade visually identical to the M8, the M14 (also written AN/M14) is a purpose designed incendiary grenade. Working off the intense and violent reaction of the thermite filler, end result of the detonation of the M14 is molten iron. This means the M14 is primarily employed on material to be destroyed in a roughly secure environment and not as an offensive or defensive weapon. The grenade has the ability to melt right through an engine block. Also, since the thermite reaction uses iron oxide instead of oxygen for its oxidizing agent, the grenade can work under water.
